The readiness guide

Growing ready.
One little moment at a time.

A starting point for noticing your child’s strengths—and the everyday experiences that help them grow.

01

Social & emotional

Finding comfort in connection.

Notice how your child asks for help, joins play, and shares feelings. Try naming a feeling together or taking turns in a simple game.

A few things to notice
  • What helps my child feel comfortable?
  • When do they ask for help?
  • What makes taking turns easier?
02

Language & listening

A little conversation goes a long way.

Read a familiar story, leave space for questions, or invite your child to tell you about their day. Conversation can happen wherever you are.

A few things to notice
  • What do they love talking about?
  • How do they share a story or an idea?
  • What helps them listen and respond?
03

Thinking & curiosity

Wonder is a wonderful starting point.

Look for moments of sorting, comparing, experimenting, and problem-solving in play. You can wonder aloud together without turning it into a quiz.

A few things to notice
  • What questions are they asking?
  • What do they return to in play?
  • How do they try a different approach?
04

Movement & making

Learning with the whole body.

Building, drawing, moving, and making offer ways to explore. Choose comfortable activities and notice what your child enjoys practicing.

A few things to notice
  • What do they enjoy making?
  • Where do they feel confident moving?
  • What would they like to try together?
05

Everyday independence

Small “I did it” moments.

Make space for your child to participate in familiar routines, with support as needed. Putting belongings away or choosing what to bring can be a place to begin.

A few things to notice
  • Which routines feel familiar?
  • What do they like doing themselves?
  • Where does a little support help?

Meet them where they are

Different seasons.
The same sense of wonder.

Choose a stage for a simple way to begin. These are ideas to explore, not deadlines to meet.

01 / Make room for play

Start with what sparks their interest.

Read the favorite book again. Talk through a daily routine. Follow their lead in play, and notice the questions and connections that appear.

A little support goes a long way

Let’s make the next step
feel a little lighter.

You don’t have to have all the answers.
That’s what we’ll work on together.
